Paper weave of fox and urban landscape

Kitchen catwalk series

Following on from my ironing board loom, I decided to use paper to play with weaving, combining seemingly unconnected things, together. I really enjoyed the textures these created and the abstract visuals.

A recurring theme has emerged throughout my research: an exploration of layering, texture, shape, volume, vibrancy, and randomness. These elements weave together the strands of my project, adding depth and cohesion.

As my paper weaves grew more complex, I began incorporating collage and embroidery, further expanding the creative process.

In line with my ongoing focus on gendered objects, I introduced models from advertisements, placing them within kitchen designs. By stripping away their intended identities and re-situating them in domestic settings, I highlighted the persistent narrative of women in the domestic sphere.

This led to the creation of the Kitchen Catwalk Series, a retro-inspired collection that merges the experimental phase with paper collage and embroidery. The mixed media approach captures the essence of weaving materials, stories, and narratives together. This series will form the core of my concept development module, addressing the imbalance that persists within both fashion and society.
