Iron - placeholder for motion capture

Pivot

After creating my iron patterns to be screen printed, the university got in touch to inform me the screen making machines are broken so I am unable to introduce these into my work. So we pivot.

I want to see what I can do with the actual iron as an tool within my practice. To make marks, to heat, and to cut out. Reflecting back on my research to date, Greenham Common and Linder Sterling in particular, I want to play with layering / collage, repeat patterns, embroidery and keep the interaction with the materials and tools fun.

I think so much of this project has been quite heavy, feeling the sense of responsibility and overwhelm with Fast Fashion and the planet, looking back, the Greenham Common women kept their protest quite playful and fun even though it was around a serious cause.

I like idea of using the iron as a symbol of rebellion against the patriarchy, the wife burning her husbands work shirts. Think 1960s feminists liberation of burning the bras that oppressed them.

As I can’t do screen printing, I think I can use the iron as a paintbrush and to do block printing.
