This was our induction to the sewing workshop where we had the opportunity to use a button hole, lock stitch and overlocker sewing machines. Its a great university resource and will be hugely beneficial to my work.
But the highlight of the session was learning the pattern cutting process, taking 3D objects and making them 2D forms out of paper. I opted to deconstruct a dustpan – based on the topics I have been researching, I liked the idea of taking a domestic household item and subverting its function by creating a new form from its shape.

I played with exaggerated pockets, shoulder pads and bustle style features on a female form.
I am really interested in how I can manipulate these shapes, in scale and quantities, play with layering and repeat patterns.
